If you’ve recently graduated from High school, you are probably thinking to enhance your qualification at an undergraduate level. The Undergraduate studies in Australia commonly refer to the Bachelor degree courses. Undergraduate courses are for those of us who have never graduated from university.
The entry requirements for a Bachelor degree in general, are Year 12 Graduation Certificate plus an IELTS Academic with a score of 6.0 or equivalent, depending on the field of study. The English tests accepted by a university are IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge ESOL and Pearson PTE.
The common duration of a Bachelor degree is 3 years. You can also fast-track you degree and graduating in 2 years.
Postgraduate courses in Australia refer, in general, to programs students can study if they have extensive work experience or they graduated with a degree. The postgraduate programs vary from Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, to Master (by Coursework), programs that have less then 33% of course structure based on research.
The minimum entry requirements for a postgraduate course are a minimum of a bachelor degree and an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 or equivalent. The English language tests accepted by the universities, besides IELTS Academic are TOEFL iBT, Cambridge ESOL, Pearson PTE.
The common duration of a Master degree is 1.5 years of 2 years. It is recommended international students take up a program that it’s at least 2 years in duration to be able to meet the requirements for a PostStudy Work Visa after graduation.
Research courses in Australia refer to those courses, which have more than 66% of study based on research. In this field you can commonly find two programs: Master (by Research) and PhD (Doctoral degree).
A research program in Australia will help you develop certain transferable skills and a qualification that will contribute to your success in any field you chose.
A Master (by Research) qualification is granted by a university to a student who brought an original contribution to a field of study in a 2 years full-time study. Usually, a no more than 50 000 words thesis will be required to show the research findings.
The qualification of Doctor is granted following a substantial contribution to a field of study in a 2 or 4 years of full-time research.
In both cases, Master (by Research) or PhD, the programs include certain theoretical parts, but the main activity is focused on Research.
