Australia came fourth on a list of countries with the highest quality of life compiled by the not-for-profit organisation Social Progress Imperative chaired by professor Michael E. Porter.
The ranking assigned a score out of 100 based on three main indexes: basic human needs (medical care, sanitation, shelter), foundations of wellbeing (education, access to technology, life expectancy), opportunity (personal rights, freedom of choice, general tolerance).
Australia scored 89.13 out of 100 and came fourth, behind Finland (90.09), Canada (89.49) and Denmark (89.39). Australia’s score was high due to high contributors such as the quality of its education system, job opportunities and strong sense of personal freedom.
An interesting fact one will notice is that Australia is the only country with a tropical climate in top 10 in the list. Cold weather countries must be doing better when it comes to quality of life.
